Halloween does not = birthday party

(On the way to school this morning...)
Mom: "Andrew, are you excited that it is finally Halloween? You get to have a Halloween party at school and eat your cupcakes!"
Andrew: "Yes, and all of my friends will sing Happy Birthday to me too."
Mom: "No, Andrew. Just because we are taking cupcakes does not mean that today is your birthday."
Andrew: "Yes, it is. I want another birthday. How much longer til my birthday?"
Mom: "Umm, next summer, bud. Sorry."

Halloween Party Cupcakes

I signed up to bring the cupcakes for the first time ever for the Halloween Party that Andrew is having at school! Andrew helped me make them. Don't they look delicious?

I voted early...it was so easy!

I went to vote early yesterday after work...I heard it was easy, and I wanted to check it off of my list of "things to do." I had already created a "fictious" story if they asked why I needed to vote eary...which they did not. They were very friendly, asked few questions, and I even got a free sticker! There were no lines...no stress. Now, I do not feel like I have to listen to the political rhetoric that has invaded my morning news radio, tv, and the like...because I have already voted! I am ready for this election to be over with! It is getting old!

Show and Tell Dilemma

The letter of the week is "I." We need to take an object that represents this letter. All I can think of is: igloo, iguana, and imapala

Of course, we have none of these in or around our house. Any ideas?

Funny Conversations with Andrew :~)

(Last night...)
Andrew: "Momma, will you play trains with me?"
Momma: "Sure, baby."
Andrew: "Momma, I am not a baby, I am a big boy."
Momma: "Ok, sure, big boy."

(Sunday after bathtime...)
Andrew: "Mom, you butthead."
Momma: "Andrew, where did you hear that word?! That is not very nice."
Andrew: "Dylan, from school says it."
Momma: "That is not nice. Miss Carrie (his teacher), would not like it if she heard you say that. You would be in time out."
Andrew: "No, no, no, Momma. Dylan would be in time out...not Andrew."

Pumpkin Carving Party

Check out the Thomas the Train pumpkin and the spooky cat pumpkin that David carved. I helped with the cleaning out of the pumpkins...
David also tied for 3rd place in the basketball shootout.

Woah-That's Cold!

Addicted to Lifetime...Again

This blog entry is totally about me...not family related or anything...I just couldn't resist. Before Andrew was born, I used to watch Lifetime for hours and hours...before David, I would watch it for an entire weekend...I don't know what happened, but I guess with a small child, watching a 2 hour movie wasn't possible until recently. Thanks to Thomas the Train, Diego, Wow Wow Wubzy, The Wonder Pets!, The Backyardigans, Andrew's afternoon naps, and TIVO, I can watch, pause, and fastforward through the commercials to actually watch an entire Lifetime movie again! Plus, I recently gave in and ordered LMN--Lifetime Movie Network (Lifetime movies 24 hours a day).
So, this post is really a review of the most recent Lifetime movie called "Sex and Lies in Sin City-The Ted Binion Scandal." I adore casinos...and this is about the people (The Binion Family) who owned my favorite casino in Tunica, MS (The Horseshoe). The movie has gambling, scandal, and romance...sort of. Loved it, loved it, loved it. It is on a lot this week since it is new, so record it and watch if you have the time...

Community Halloween Carnival

We took Andrew to the Annual Community Halloween Carnival last night. We played the cake walk three times without winning, but Andrew didn't know he lost because all participants got candy!! He had a really good time. I was disappointed that we did miss the costume contest...it was in the auditorium, and by the time I realized this, we missed our age group. I think we had a really good chance at winning!

Big Boy Bed...Finally!

Last weekend was momentous for us all...we finally found time to take apart Andrew's crib and break out the big boy bed. We decided to skip the toddler bed because I figured if it took us three years to get rid of the crib, he would be a teenager before we got rid of the toddler bed. Therefore, he has a real double bed with a nice, sturdy rail to prevent him from falling out...he loves it, and we have not had any trouble with it. Yay!!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

I took Andrew to see "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" Friday night. I was not expecting much out of it...the last movie we went to see (Igor) was so bad that we left after only 20 minutes. I don't know if it was because it was a Disney movie, or because Drew Barrymore did the voice of the dog, Chloe, or if it was because we have a chihuahua, but this movie was great!! We laughed and laughed...Andrew and I both loved it. This was really one of the best movies I have seen in a while. It was super cute and very enjoyable for kids and adults. I highly recommend it. Super cute movie!!

Friday's Show and Share - Letter "G"

We went all out this week. Andrew and I put up a "G"host in the tree out front...also, he is taking his "G"irraffe and (Curious) "G"eorge to school today. I had to take these with my cell phone because I couldn't find the camera.

Winter Wonderland

Currently, it is 34 degrees...with a high today of 62!!! We had to turn on the heat Monday night and get out extra blankets! No one here seems to think this is a big deal except for me. A while back I am told that it snowed here on halloween...glad Andrew will be wearing a fireman's jacket with rubber boots!

Ray-Adler Wedding

My childhood friend Nancy Margaret Ray got married this weekend at her parent's home in Water Valley, MS. She and her husband both live in Washington DC. Congratulations, NMR...should I say, "Mrs. Adler?"
I enjoyed being a bridesmaid in your wedding, and I apologize for having too much fun on Friday night instead of Saturday. I really enjoyed seeing your family, visiting with old friends, and being a part of your special day.
Here is a link to their wedding web page:

Friday's Show and Share-Letter "F"

Andrew's Most Favorite Toy

We haven't gotten much interaction from Andrew lately because he focuses on the toy above from the time he gets home from school until he goes to bed. He didn't want to go to swimming lessons yesterday because he wanted to stay home to play with his train. He also sleeps with this train at night. We have 10 or more of the plastic Thomas trains and the track, but these are no longer desireable for some reason...probably because you can easily get those at Wal-mart. The wooden Thomas is only sold at Toys 'R' Us in Wichita and they cost more than the plastic ones! We have also lost the caboose to this train already. It has been missing for two days. I am going to start looking for this stuff on Ebay. Can you believe one little wooden car is $10.99? That is just for one that you push...some of the battery operated wooden cars are $25 or more!

My Attempt at Hands-On Learning

On Sunday, I took Andrew to Exploration Place in Wichita...a hands-on musuem with educational opportunities galore. However, Andrew was not interested in educational opportunities. He was interested in Thomas the Train only. I attempted to get him interested in all of the exciting exhibits...to no avail. After two hours of watching him play trains in a museum that charges admission, I drug him out, kicking and screaming...with tears to Toys 'r' Us so we could have non-stop entertainment at home with a wooden Thomas set. These pictures are of him playing at the museum and riding with Bob the Builder at Toys 'R' Us. He announced this morning that he did not want to go to school...he wanted to stay home and play with Thomas.

Friday's are for Show and Share

Every Friday at Andrew's pre-school, they are asked to bring an object that starts with the letter of the week or an object that goes along with the theme. This week's letter of the week was "E." The theme was fire safety. Andrew chose to take "baby 'e'lmo." There were two other Elmo dolls visible when looking into the toy box this morning as precious minutes passed us by...but we had to find "baby 'e'lmo" who was hidden at the bottom.

Mom, Is it Halloween yet?

First of all...the photo above is from Costume Express...it is NOT Andrew. This is his Halloween costume for the year. It came in about three weeks ago...ever since the fire department brought their truck and dalmation doggie to Andrew's school last year, he has been obsessed with firemen. Thus, this is what he is going to be for halloween. This is the first year that he understands things...he knows Halloween is coming. Every day for the past few days he has asked me, "Mom, is today Halloween?" He knows it is coming, and he can't wait to fill his pumpkin basket with candy. It is so cute to see him excited about Halloween. I can not imagine how excited he will be this year about Christmas!
